Working downtown I am constantly checking out the food truck offerings. There are some really interesting options being offer through a window cut into the side of a box truck. My interest was piqued when I heard about Stoked Wood Fired Pizza Company. I strolled on down to Dewey Sq. to see what it was all about.
Stoked Pizza offers mobile artisanal pizza napoletana (classic Neapolitan). Meaning, their custom rig features a domed wood burning oven. My visit was during the early spring so the outside temp was still relatively cool but I cannot imagine being the poor soul slinging pies in front of that oven during the dog days of summer.
The menu was interesting but simple. Six pie offering, tomato, cheese, pepperoni, mushroom, buffalo chicken and buffalo Brussels sprouts (a big hit with the kids). Sticking with the Golden Rule, as always, I went with the cheese. I was there off hours so the line wasn’t too bad and I had my pizza in less than 10 minutes. I am interested to see how they handle a summertime lunch rush though. Back to the cube farm to dig in.
Stoked implements a sauce beneath and above the cheese technique. The ingredients are high quality with great tasting cheese and sauce. The crust was also cooked well. I would have liked a better melt on the cheese and a little less sauce. That being said, it is the best classic Neapolitan Pizza I have had so far.
