After many failed attempts, longtime friend Sir Al of Wenham and I were finally able to meet up for lunch at Slate Bar and Grill located in the financial district on High Street in Boston. This place screams Thirsty Thursdays with an elegant long bar that is packed to the gills with alcohol.  They also feature an impressive craft beer selection. Service was a little off that day as it took a good twenty minutes for someone to come over and take our drink order.

Creeping on what others had order around us, The Intern (basically a grilled cheese) and the Spicy Roast Beef sandwich looked equally amazing, however, adhering to the Golden Rule, I ordered a Margherita flat bread with Sir Al following suit, ordering a New Market.  The Margherita featured mozzarella, red sauce and fresh basil. The New Market featured red sauce, pepperoni, bacon, sausage and a four cheese mix.

Both pizzas flatbreads came out looking like textbook flatbreads, long and narrow-ish and cut into squares. Both were good and hot with good melt and good topping proportions with little to no sag.  Both had very thin crusts which lead to a little too much char on the edges for my liking. Where the char was not over abundant it added a nice flavor profile to the pies. Flavor wise, the Margherita was standard but good however the New Market was my favorite.  Slate really got the proportions of the three meats correct so that each one shown through. I usually find when bacon is used as a topping it over powers anything, not here. Sir Al was equally impressed and implemented the classic slice fold eating technique regardless of the miniature size of the slices.

So, if you happen to find yourself at Slate during the work week, kick the tires on the one of their flatbreads. You will not be disappointed.
